The event brought together representatives from intergovernmental organizations, domestic worker organizations, and an Advisory Center to discuss the recently established International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 190 (C190) on Violence and Harassment. C190 is first international treaty to recognize the right to work free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence (GBV). The Convention defines the world of work in broad enough terms to encompass the private household, hereby recognizing workers in formal and informal economies. C190 was adopted in June 2019 and came into force on June 25, 2021. As the enforcement of the Convention hits its 1-year mark, we are publishing a Guidance Note which draws on the lived experiences and expertise provided by speakers at the event and additional research conducted as it pertains to violence and harassment with regards to women migrant domestic workers. This Guidance Note reflects ongoing efforts by CMGJ and IDWF concerning the ratification of C190.
